Liberal Democrats surge doubling seats

5 May 2023

Yesterday, hundreds of residents across Abbey and Glebe cast their ballots in a demand for change resulting in the Liberal Democrats wiping out the ruling Labour Party from Abbey Ward and taking their first seat in Glebe ward.

Newly elected Cllr Natasha Chapman and Cllr Aiden Wells will join Cllr Clare Smalley and Cllr Martin Christopher in city hall, doubling the size of the group overnight.

Aiden Wells commented: “First and foremost I’d like to thank the residents of Glebe Ward for placing their trust in me this May. The hard work starts now in securing the improvements our community need and tackling the issues we campaigned on locally. We’ve had a fantastic campaign leading up to this May and it’s been a joy to meet as many residents on doorsteps as possible. Our focus will continue to be on improving frontline services, tackling local street-level issues like graffiti and flytipping, and pushing the city council tolisten more to residents about the matters that affect our community.”

Echoing Aiden, Natasha Chapman vowed  "Whether you voted for me or not, I promise to work hard every day to serve our community and all local residents.”

A beaming Cllr Clare Smalley, Group Leader of the Liberal Democrats, said "Tonight's results are further proof that Labour and Conservatives have lost touch with ordinary people. Residents have backed our vision for a cleaner, greener and safer Lincoln. The Liberal Democrats represent the real change that residents across the city demand"
